This blog is dedicated to myself, Cambridge Wong. I don't blog here often, and have neglected it for years. Nevertheless, this is the only place I have ever attempted to log my life. So as long as I can remember that I have a blog, and can bother to visit it, I will try to make an update. Thank you

Marley and Me / Saturday, January 10, 2009
Marley and Me is a really touching movie - totally not what I had expected just watching the tv commercials for the damn thing (but then again, they never really do tell you what to expect, do they?)

Before I get started, I'd just like to say that I'm a tremendous dog fan. I love dogs, but particularly for Labradors and Beagles, which in this case, a Labradador, so all good. The movie exceeded my expectations more probably because I had really low ones for this film. I mean, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston are suitable actors/actresses for rom-coms, but for a film that has more 'aww...this is so sad' than 'some serious romance happening', they did way better than expected.

But honestly, Owen Wilson is a hard-worker. Technically speaking, he must've jumped onto this project the moment he recovered from his attempted-suicide. As for Jen, man, for an older actress, she's still ace hot. Again, this is one of those 'as-you-age' films, where they start off in their 20's and end up in their 40's-50's films. Life-to-death films are usually like that, and this one worked for me.

Here's a quote from the end of the movie which had the entire subtext embedded in it:

"What I really wanted to say was how this animal had touched our souls and taught us some of the most important lessons od our lives. 'A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours,' I wrote. "Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things- a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty'"

I'm going to buy the DVD when it comes out.

PS: Thankyou Jenny and Alice for going Yumcha with me.
