Medical Dilemna / Wednesday, September 9, 2009
Okay, I have to submit my medical preferences for next year in by this Friday! I keep forgetting to do it! Aaaahhh...I don't know what to choose.

16 streams at Campbelltown, and 16 streams at Blacktown. Must choose a stream.
Each stream is divided into 2 medicine attachments, and 2 surgery attachments.
What to do, what to do...
I want to cardiology, but also want to do neurology. Why can't there be a stream with BOTH cardio and neurology. As for surgery elects, why do ALL the streams that have orthopaedics have breast surgery as the 2ndary elect. -.-"
What should I choose?! What should I choose?!
There's also surgery elects available at Bankstown Hospital, and that's heaps closer...but I'm more medically-oriented than surgery, so what does that mean!?
And also, I should do something not awesomely cool now, so that I can do that awesomely cool thing later in Year 5, when I actually know shit. So what's not awesomely cool but still something fun and radical? >.<

Blaaah!
See, if this was a mutiple choice question, I'd just pick 'A' or 'C', but now, there's 4 times as many options to choose from.

P.S: I've only put up the Campbelltown/Macarthur Hospital streams simply because I have no intentions of going to Blacktown Hospital untill necessary (Year 5...)

='(...
Oh well, just as long as I'm not stuck doing something lame like geriatrics.

*Dum dum dum* ...and the plot thickens! / Monday, July 27, 2009
Long time no blog!
Heaps of foshizzle's been happn' yo! Its like the blood's fryin and the knuckle's are poppin' and I walk down the road and scream out "FIDDY CENT! Wut up"...something something gangster.

Lol, yeah, not very, Cam, not very.

Anyhoos, how are we all? Happy? Sad? Just generally pissed off that uni's already started? Yeah, I'm feeling all that too! You know how some people can write really insightful blogs about things that really makes them sound they've come to a really astounding conclusion about life? I totally realised today that I"m not one of those people - and as a result - my blogs are actually kind of bland.

In addition, I'm not one of those people who can write about simple stuff and make it seem incredibly funny! =/ Most probably because I can't retain those details enough and have already laughed all the humour out of that would-be situation. Or lastly, it could just be because I like using words that make no sense. =)

In any case, I suppose it would only be right for me to post up some photos of what I've been up to anyway.

First things first, should kick things off with some new clothing additions that from what other people have told me, totally revamped (or reinforced) my sense of style. There were a couple of neat jackets that I bought over the holidays, but sadly, I fail at taking luvos (or that I lack the patience to actually try...) so no photos of those purchases. Perhaps one day when they become old clothes you'll see photos of me somewhere in them. xD

I have recently been the proud owner of my new black plasticy PRADA glasses. Yay! =D Except for the fact that I wanted those glasses waay back when i was in year 10, i realised that I do quite still love those thick frames sorta things. No longer would I need to wear stupid skinny lightweight frames that always makes me worry if they're there or not, because these are perfect!

Let's see...I am about to buy this shirt I saw at Jay Jays. Yay or nay? I'm hoping that we are all in accordance of yay and I will buy this shirt the next time I visit.
ITS PATRICK!! =O YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!

As far as uni is concerned, I'm already finished with the pituitary gland and done the whole reproductive cycle yadeyada yada. All actually quite boring stuff and on a whole - rather disturbing. I have now seen what no man should ever have to see in his life - explosive blood vaginas. That is all I want to and have to say on that topic.

However, some parts have been fun. At hospital we had to practice breast examinations on each other. So you can kinda guess where this is going to go - pretty much a lot of boys being boys and running around the corridors with our massive fake boobs. "They feel like bagsth of sandth...*nerd smile*"
(As you would expect, the girls just spent the time 'tutting' at us whilst examining our breasts lol)
But hey, guess this means I'm now practised in the arts of feeling for breast lumps, cysts, adenomas and other cancers and whatnot. Volunteers anyone? xD

As you can kinda see, my hair was getting kind of long there...Too long by my measure in any case. Beforehand, I've been trying for weeks to convince my hairdresser to cut my hair, but every single time, he'd be like, "you sure? I don't think its long enough yet..." and I'd sigh and leave, thinking, "fiiiinne...". But last week, I couldn't take it anymore, so I decided to get a chop, snip and haircut.

I wanted to dye my hair too, but since I'm doing my full licence test soon, I wanted to have black hair on a photo ID that I'm going to hold for the next 5 or so years. (Man...I'm getting old).

Lastly, just wanted to put it out there that you are simply awesome, o sweet one. <3Oh, yeah, here's proof of my glasses and haircut lol. =D

hehe...
Tra la la la la~ Let the quirkiness begin!! xoxo

Until next time!

I've gotten my results back!
They went good, but not so good.
I averaged 54 in all my exams, so that's actually my best mark I've ever gotten in uni. XD
That's kinda spastic come to think of it.

I failed two exams, but passed the other two. I'm kinda cut that I failed two on scores of 46 and 47. (But then again, giving the circumstances surrounding my exam period, quite understandable.)
Got 63 and 60 for the other two.

So basically, I can only fail one more exam this sem. I'll try my best! Esp since this sem is meant to be heaps easier than last sem, I'm hoping I won't fall into too much trouble.

Extremely pleased with my results. Did you know that 30% of my cohort failed this sem?! That's unbelievable! =O I mean, we all complained that the content in the exams did not reflect the content taught in the semester, but still...30% is really quite something.

The highest mark was 78, so not one single HD. Middle 50% of the grade got between 52-55, so that pretty much tells you just how hard these exams were.

Will try my best to improve!! ><
---------

In other news, hospital now has a casual fridays policy which I'm not minding at all. =)
No need to look as spiffy as you normally have to, but again, nice to see that even in hospital environments that they're adopting new strategies to improve working conditions.

Hiatus / Thursday, May 14, 2009
The blog will be on hiatus until further notice.

I'm sorry. Feeling quite stressed at the moment. Things are just stacking up and I'll need to have some time to deal with it all.
To summarise:
1. Just finished Week 12 and doing Week 9 notes.
2. Doing week 9 notes although I only know about 30% of it all.
3. Formative exam was gg.
4. Family matters.
5. Overall feeling overwhelmed and needing to cut back on non-essential activities (Except basketball)
6. Needing an excuse to cut off leisure activities just to make myself feel better about it.
7. Mainly needing to make more time out of having none.
8. Angry at how smart people seem to know it all and you take an hour to understand something they get straight away.
9. Angry at stupid lecturers with accents you don't understand; especially if they crack jokes that you don't find funny. "Did you guys watch House last night?! How weird is Amber and hallucinations? Hall-lucee-nations... haha, get it?!" - "NO! I DON"T!"
10. Kamehameha!
11. Screaming out that word really helps me destress. Lol, that's funny, ain't it? XD That technique has worked for me since '93

I apologise for any inconvenience caused =P
Let's set an arbitrary date for my next blog post...say...June 18th?
Check back then.

Now, say it with me:

Trialing times... / Friday, December 12, 2008
Just wanted to say that I'm feeling pretty emo at the moment...
Why?
I have to do a fucking supp. exam. Fuck you medicine. Sif be a bitch to me. I can only see a few positives from this outcome
1. For a person to do a supp exam, he/she needs to have only just failed the total course by a margin of 2%. i.e. Total mark was 48%~
2. I failed first sem by 5%, meaning that I passed this sem by a few percent.
3. Conclusion is: I passed this sem, but not enough to make up for last sem. Therefore, I need to do a retest on the 22nd December.

I guess this means I'll be hitting the textbooks again for the next week. Great, another 'stuvac'. So what this effectively means is that I won't be going out at all during this period. Not at all. So yeah, there goes my plans till the 22nd. Fuck. I hate fucking life. Even now I'm typing this entry from uni, where I'm supposed to be studying.

You know what gets to me is that I fucking tried so fucking hard this semester to get things back on track. Did my work on time, didn't bludge, and tried to make sure I understood as much as possible. So why is God still fucking with me? Sigh....

I guess this is it from me, no facebook+no msn+no blog till its over.
I can do this. =) After all, I'm in this mess because it is, no matter how I try not to admit it, my fault.

Holidays! / Thursday, November 20, 2008
Firstly, I think I should wish Daniel Happy birthday once again. Congratulations on turning 19 buddy. I really should get you a gift, but I can't decide what. I'm also writing this hoping you don't check this blog anymore, as writing things out as you think of them helps with the thinking process, well at least, that's what I've thought.

Secondly, yes people, this is a new layout. I again scammed it off blogskins.com, and I think it reflects that hint of background sarcasm and ignorance in my personality. I really do think its pretty, so it'll probably be here for the next few months before I decide its not as good as something else I find. =/ I know, I think the same thing. Heartless bastard.

Thirdly, I am so excited about end of exams. I know most of you have already finished, and I'm eagerly awaiting my turn. Oh boy oh boy, I've got all these things planned out for next week, and about a week into December. I can't wait! =] E.g. Kiama! Arr...the beach. Can't wait to live the beach life, me hearties. Savvy?

Fourthly, I have no idea how I'm going to pack all these activities I've planned with people into my timetable. I've already promised Jian I'd go summer school with her (learn japanese? learn guitar?). I've promised Dan I'd go Dancekool with him (I don't intend to skimp out on this one either!). I've sorta left a half-hanging promise to go gym either with Lily or taekwando with Sisi.
All this for the cost of ALOT OF $$$$$. Going to try restrict myself. I think about 1000 should cover for all my expenses these holidays. Haha, yes, I"m cheap. But with the holidays and all I won't be able to tutor all the time (kids have holidays). Money needs to be valued before its spent.

Fifthly, I need to organise with Yang Yang all these parties for the holidays! I mean, X'mas parties, outings etc. I'm thinking of many activities, but I think the next closest thing to be arranged would be paintball. Jeska mentioned discount tix, so that'll be cool. We also need to know who's going overseas this time around so we don't spam them with unnecessary emails.
I already know of Alfie, Bonnie, Kat, Linda, Yu Lin and Alice being away for the hols (Alice comes back in December so that's okay). We also need to know who's parents are going overseas or out of the house for a weekend or more; i.e we need to plan if we want to go to someone's place for party.

Sixthly, I can't wait to see all of you! =D =D =D So excited in fact, I can't focus and study anymore! Who cares...one bloody exam left. Its multiple choice, and I did the other multiple choice in 1/2 hour! HAW HAW HAW. I feel invincible! (<-- watch this space, possibly my own jinx and my own downfall for that would-be curse XD)

-I'm usually a patient guy, but now this has started to get to me. Why though? I'm going to ignore my first instincts which naturally say, "Is it something I did?" because I know that's bullshit. I thought I made it very clear but clearly not enough. Circumstances upon chance they'd say, but to hell with that. Must be the exam stress making my head go haywire.
-----

-I have only seen you once, yet you act like we've known each other in ages. Please, get off my case. I've ignored your messages, your calls and your convos, yet you still won't leave me alone. Its becoming stalkerish, and trust me, your whinny personality is starting to overwhelm me. As much as I care about how your day is, you don't have to feel obliged to tell me what's happening all the time. There is a limit to how much you would tell a friend, and we're barely that. Please stop. I hate clingy, especially in people you're not even close to. It just makes you look sad.
-----

-Clinical exam on next Thursday. Am not prepared. Tutor sucks like hell and has not taught us anything significant since he's appeared. No wonder we didn't get you a gift. You were absolutely crap and gave us no inspiration as to why we aspire to be in this profession. You're tardy, scruffy, unshaven and worse. You use us to get out of your clinicals, and it leaves me no wonder as to why you chose respiratory - the most boring out of the lot - as your specialisation you boring person! Even when I tried to approach you afterwards to talk about things I didn't know, and even when I asked you to sign the medical research consent form, your poor memory retention to what I just said frustrates me. Thanks for showing up 5 times this entire semester, it really showed you cared.
------

-Watched a crappy hip hop movie two days ago. I thought it would be interesting, seeing how its called "kung fu hip hop". It really isn't. Nothing fancy to start with, and Jordan Chan, please. Get the f*** off the screen. You can't sing, you can't act, and most of all, you can't dance. I can't believe you. You started off with dancing as your roots, and yet you still have to resort to doubles and stunt-tricks just to pull off what shouldn't be a complicated move to any bboy. It really makes the movie fail, what with Hyun Joon clearly outstripping you in every single dance routine. The girls however, were hot.

-------

-Done 30/60 lectures. I'm halfway there! T_T Fuck fuck fuck!!

exams 2nd sem / Sunday, October 19, 2008
So I'm almost done with my EBM assignment, well technically, i've been almost done for about 3 hrs now. I've been trying to think of things to do to put it off, and I'm running out now, so I guess the last on the list is to blog about putting it off...

See how that works? Its genius!

Okay, I've also put myself on a facebook ban! That is, until exams are over. I'm sure I can do it, if it weren't for people always posting events on facebook all the time and wanting me to confirm! Yeah, I'll probably give in before that, but it still doesn't stop me from trying. So far I've been doing pretty well, so yay for me =D

I shouldn't be so negative actually. People want me to confirm because they care if I'm going, right? Well, I should be grateful I was invited to all these extravagent events! I really am. However, some of these events are quite pricey! $140 for a ticket for one day of fun? Hmm...I should've used that money to buy a Chris Brown/Rihanna show ticket. And another thing, I actually want to go to Good Vibes but it seems that clashes with another trip up to the coast. Oh dear oh my...

On a completely unrelated topic, here is my exam timetable
10/11 Scientific Basis of Medicine A Monday SAQ
12/11 Scientific Basis of Medicine B Wednesday SAQ
14/11 Scientific Basis of Medicine C Friday SAQ
17/11 Health Practice Monday
19/11 Scientific Basis of Medicine D Wednesday MCQ
21/11 Scientific Basis of Medicine E Friday MCQ

And then I'll be done =D
Alot of bloody exams, but spaced out. All good.

Fuck / Sunday, June 22, 2008
One last exam tomorrow and I'm not studying...Why?! Why must I fizz out the day beforehand...
And to add to that, I fucked up all my other exams. Fkn hell, this is like one of the few complaints I have about med. Fkn exams...

Although I'm sure that's what all you people also felt towards your exams, except two things.
1) You guys have finished your exams.
2) Medicine is hard for a reason. =.=

I can't speak for the people who do commerce/law related courses, because you guys suffer enough from your QMA's and other ongoing 'assignments', which I don't have. However, for you pharmacy people, I have no idea what you guys are complaining about. I looked at your exam papers and they're fkn easy. You guys cover nowhere near the same amount of shit that we do, and so your only valid complaint is that you guys have more exams than I do and that you finish later than I do.

But I must apologize, why am I raging against pharm people? Sorry. =[

I've done all but the 1999 and the 2000 Melbourne University medicine papers now and I'm averaging a FAIL in all of them.
2005 - 32%
2004 - 61%
2003 - 47%
2002 - 45%
2001 - havn't corrected with friends yet.
2000 - later tonight
1999 - an hr before exam

Incidentally, my last MCQ exam needs to be ranted at. We only ever had 1 lecture on embryology so why the fuck was there so many questions regarding cell specialisation; especially about the varying stages leading to blastocysts from oocytes!? What happened to the weeks of lectures spent on energy metabolism?! Like...2 questions asked about shit we did for 4 weeks consecutively and half the bloody paper on a lecture we did in bloody week 7!! UWS, fuck you.

Dr Kevin Chan's ICM! / Tuesday, May 6, 2008
Just going to fill this blog space up because the copy pasting of said exam timetable screws up my blog layout...which just doesnt go well in my opinion.

KATIE, I STILL LOVE YOU!!!.......in a weird way...

But yerh, let's talk about me today!
Went to Campbelltown hospital and worked (as usual) but only for a friggin hour today because my clinical tutor doctor Dr Kevin Chan had to be at another hospital for his son, who supposedly contracted cataracts in both his eyes (he's only 3 btw)

So yeah, that was pretty concerning, but we got a really interesting story out of it. But basically he promised that he'll take us around longer next week (3 hour ICM ftw!!) So that means we get to play with a lot more patients than usual! woot~ More reasons to pull out my stethoscope and use my newly acquired skills in using them.

Anybody want their blood pressure measured? I can do that now with the air pump thingy XD

Mm...and then what...
went to Kmart, working this saturday, waited for mum to finish work, had lunch, visited Amanda at The Brain, gave my sister some documents to sign, and went to Medicare to register me for a new Medicare card.

So yeah, I guess that's it!
(I am just realizing just how young everybody is...what's with everybody's 18ths...now?!)

Mood: Post-euphoric
Music: 大男人·小女孩 - JJ Lin
Reason for procrastination: Don't want to mark tutor homework, so decided to blog.
Real reason for procrastination: I just finished playing Final Fantasy: Crisis Core on my PSP.

So the week of UNSW/USyd holidays have finished, have they? =/ Good. You bastards for having a mid-sem so godamn early in the year. But what really happened in this past week?

I went and watched Horton Hears A Who on Monday with Jo. It was a totally awesome movie, not because it was one of those family fun movies, but because it really allowed me to appreciate the childish silliness and magic of youthful humour. And as an inspiration, I manipulated Yi into making this current blog layout for me. So many thanks to Yi~ (Yes, can you find her signature embedded in this layout somewhere? According to her blog, there is...so tell me if you're bored because I personally cbb trying to find it.=/)

Tuesday was my Clinical at Campbelltown Hospital. Omg, too long to type. From now on, I dub thee hospital as Camspital (Cam goes to hospital, so Cam's hospital...to Camspital...easy to remember) But yeah, I need to get me some of that alcoholic gel that you use on your hands to disinfect...not because it keeps my hands squeaky clean, but because after you use it, the smell of that alcohol is just...mm.... I totally forgot it was photo day on that day, so I missed out on getting my hospital I.D. Its so funny, because every time I'm at hospital, I'm reminded of how much me and my uws buddies resemble 'Scrubs' in that we actually do nothing at hospital except talk (with patients).

Wednesday was normal day at uni. Nothing interesting so to speak of.

Thursday was my free day. So we crashed Richard Yang's place for his 'housewarming'. Man, his place is huge. Jealous jealous jealous. The day included a lot of DOTA (living up to its name: death of the asians), alot of piano playing, alot of playing with Moon, alot of Nintendo Wii, alot of mahjong and alot of park activities. As always, it feels great to see Hurstville family again~

Friday had uni then crashed hurstville library to reconnect to our roots. So to speak.

Saturday I did absolutely nothing at home. Well, I pulled out my physiology book for a bit of light reading, but then the rest of it was probably spent on my PSP and youtube. I've been watching alot of Journey to the West on youtube lately, and it feels so good to watch one of the best made TVB series ever (well, compared to the crap they make these days).

And today, nothing really...might study a bit. Might actually pull out my community assignment and actually check when its due, what I need to do, and why its worth zero percent. Oh yeah, and mark all these damn high school math excercise books. Why can't kids write neatly with all their working out shown properly?! (lol at unreasonable request)
